Why Hallsmart Stayed Behind Brands for 27 Years | OEM Home Appliance Manufacturer

Most people who cook with a Hallsmart appliance have never heard the name. That isn't a mistake. Since 1999 ,We have been manufacturing small kitchen appliances for leading global brands.. If you've owned a dependable rice cooker or air fryer in the past twenty years, the factory behind it might well have been ours.

We're a publicly listed company now (Beijing Stock Exchange, 920926), with three factories—Zhanjiang and Hangzhou in China, plus Jakarta in Indonesia—and an R&D center in Zhanjiang that runs the full loop: industrial design, mechanical structure, bench testing. We ship roughly 10 million units a year and have served over 300 brands. And until recently we let every one of those brands stamp their name on the box and walk away with the credit.

This post is where that changes. Hallsmart.com is us talking straight to the people who actually buy appliances in volume—importers, distributors, private-label owners. If that's you, keep reading. If you want one rice cooker for your kitchen, this page won't help you, and I'll point you the right way at the end.

Industry Warning: An order that nearly ruined a peer manufacturer

This is a public smallhomeappliance case from the EU Safety Gate (formerly RAPEX) alert system. A Belgianimported brand commissioned a domestic Chinese OEM to produce rice cookers. After the product launch, regulators issued a recall notification for the units. Under regular cooking conditions, a structural flaw at the base of these rice cookers created a risk of electric shock as live components could be touched by users.

During the development phase, the OEM skipped complete reliability testing for safetycritical structures to shorten lead times and cut manufacturing costs. As a result, the safety hazard was not identified before products left the factory. Once the issue was uncovered through market surveillance inspections, the OEM bore the major costs of recall, rework and compensation. Losses from this order nearly wiped out the factory’s fullperiod profit. In addition, the brand terminated all future newproject cooperation and stopped placing any further orders with this manufacturer.

This industry case delivers a profound warning: what a factory truly delivers to its clients is not merely physical home appliances, but a qualitycontrol system that ensures consistent reliability after products are shipped. Costdriven solutions may pass spotchecks on the production line, yet hidden hazards will emerge in realworld consumer usage scenarios. It is the OEM that sacrifices testing procedures which ultimately bears compensation costs and the risk of lost business. Meanwhile, the purchasing brand also suffers from negative reviews and reputational damage.

Why we stayed invisible for two decades

People ask why a company with our track record stayed anonymous. The honest answer is that building a brand and building a factory are different businesses. Around 2005 we ran the numbers on launching our own name internationally. The math was brutal. A factory earns a stable, if thin, margin turning steel and plastic into certified product. A brand spends years and millions earning the right to be trusted, and most of that spend is marketing and warranty risk we'd have to carry alone.

So we did what we were good at. We got better at it. We added automated lines so a 50,000-unit order ships on schedule instead of slipping three weeks. We built standardized testing labs so a coating change gets re-qualified before it reaches a client's warehouse, not after. We collected the certifications—ETL, UL, CE, NSF—that let our clients walk into the US and EU markets without a customs argument. We entered the supply chains of the brands I named above and stayed there quietly.

None of that is glamorous. All of it is what separates a factory you can trust from one that sends you a container of surprises.

Industry Warning: Failed ComponentChange Control Cost a Brand Its Key Selling Season

The ricecooker case mentioned above is far from the only cautionary lesson in the industry. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) published a largescale airfryer recall incident. These air fryers were manufactured by a Chinese OEM. Modifications were made to internal wireconnector components, yet the factory’s materialchange control procedure was not properly closedloop. Incominggoods inspection only covered basic visual checks and continuity tests, without conducting full hightemperature endurance validation for the revised components.

Under prolonged highheat operating conditions, the wire connectors overheated and melted, resulting in numerous consumer complaints regarding smoking and potential fire hazards. Although risks were detected during mass shipment, nearly 2 million units already in circulation still had to be recalled. The brand incurred substantial recall costs, which severely disrupted its core sales window. The root cause was not deliberate fraud from the supplier, but loopholes within the OEM’s materialchange control system: replacement of critical components did not automatically trigger a full round of reliability retesting.

This realworld case drives us to continuously refine our internal control mechanisms. Any material substitution must undergo requalification under extreme operating conditions, signed off by our laboratory. Complete records of material changes are archived and available for buyers to review. When prospective clients ask what differentiates us from ordinary tradingoriented factories, we cite this industry case. Certificates hanging on the wall are merely paperwork. What truly counts are the rigorous procedures implemented and enforced in practice.
